Proposed Training Road Map

Winter Training – Skills, Strength, and Endurance (January to March)

Programming runs one evening per week (Wednesday or Thursday) for three months. Sessions rotate between JoyRide150, Defy Fitness, and virtual training, providing athletes with a balanced mix of skills, strength, and endurance development. Riders will build confidence, technical ability, and physical strength in a supportive team environment.

Virtual training sessions in January focus on structured indoor cycling workouts designed to develop foundational fitness, consistency, and group accountability. February and March sessions emphasize bike handling, technical skill development, team-building, and off-bike strength and agility work that improves on-bike performance.

Early Spring – Training Boot Camp (April)

Outdoor riding begins in April with weekly endurance sessions. Trails may still be muddy, but roads, recreational paths, and early-season climbs will be accessible. Sessions are structured rain or shine, with indoor trainer options as needed for the really crummy days. The Paris to Ancaster (P2A) gravel ride is a key early-season fitness goal. Mountain bikes are fully suitable for this event, and parents are encouraged to participate.

Spring Training – Technical Trails and XC Race Prep (May and June)

With base fitness established, the focus shifts to technical trail riding and race preparation throughout the Don Valley. Skills include climbing, descending, line choice, and short-track efforts. Anticipated events include the Woodnewton Ontario Cup XC #1, Ontario Cup XC #2, and the 24-Hour Race. The team will increase support at key events for 2026.

Summer – Events and Camp (July and August)

Weekly programming pauses, but athletes are encouraged to ride, race, and explore trails. Optional trips to Horseshoe Valley and self-organized rides are recommended. The Team Development Camp (July 13–17) provides multi-day progressive riding, skill development, and team bonding.

Fall – Team Rides and Enduro Race Prep (September)

Wednesday sessions resume, focusing on enduro-style riding, descending, cornering, braking, and technical features. Small group coaching is provided. Targeted events include Bikes Fest and the Ontario Enduro Series.

MTB School – Tier One Cross Country & Enduro Team Details

The team is open to athletes aged 9–14 with intermediate to advanced skills. Riders must be able to confidently navigate the Ridge Trail and progress safely toward advanced features. Racing is encouraged but not mandatory, with support provided for XC, enduro, and other events. Fitness should be above average or show a commitment to improving.
